Shostakovich 15 Recording
September 26, 2000 General Comments OffI was in Barnes and Noble last night trying to study for Physics, but I was just not in the mood for that.
So, I went wandering around in their overly-priced CD section, when I found a recording of Shostakovich String Quartet No. 15. I’ve been wanting to get more of his quartets, since the only ones I have are Nos. 2 and 12, and both of those are great. This CD is recorded by Gidon Kremer, Daniel Phillips, Yo-Yo Ma, and Kim Kashkashian. An ensemble such as this can only be good. I have a recording of Kremer, Kashkashian, and Ma doing the Mozart E-flat Major Divertimento, and it is wonderful.
So, I bought the CD and put it in. In short, it rocks! Kim Kashkashian’s tone and vibrato are incredibly beautiful, as always. The piece itself is amazing. I had never heard it before this.
