September 27, 2000 General Comments OffSo I just finished taking my Physics test. Fortunately, it was much simpler than our homework has been. I’ve been doing okay on my homework, I just don’t feel like I’m retaining the information very well. I’m sorry, but I just don’t think I’m ever going to find an application for Coulomb’s Law in my line of work.
I got Ludwig van’s Bonobo code up-to-date with the new UI code in Bonobo. While the new Bonobo UI code is still very buggy, I think it’s really very cool. I’ve had very little time to hack recently due to my general freaking-out attitude towards my impending recital. By the time this recital is over and I begin hacking on Ludwig van again, the Bonobo UI code will be stabilized (read: totally re-written) so I will end up having to undo yesterday’s changes and redo them using the new Bonobo code.
After getting that Shostakovich quartet the other day, I did a little thinking. There really aren’t any really incredible composers these days. I mean, when you look on the grand scale of music composers in history, you see Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Bartok, and Shostakovich ranking at the top as undisputed masters of their art. Certainly, there are other great composers. But who are the Greats today? Gorecki? Not a “Great”, I think. Penderecki? No, certainly not. Shostakovich may very well have been the last truly Great composer. Every piece I’ve heard of his has been an awesome piece, while I can’t say the same for any composer since.
