Mouse

I finally got my new USB Logitech iFeel mouse working on Linux. Building USB into the kernel rather than as modules makes it a lot easier. Now my new mouse is ultra-smooth and glows red in that “pay me for sex” sort of way. I dig it.

CVS stats

I noticed I was on the CVS activity stats list for 23 June to 7 July. This is cool. I’ve never seen myself on the list before, but I don’t really check very often. 24 hits for me, 20 of those for ludwig, putting it on the list as well. Whee! =)

Black & White 1.10 patch

General Comments Off

The official 1.10 patch was released today for Black & White. I’ve really been looking forward to this for a long time, because Black & White has been so unstable and buggy. Well, official this patch may be, but stable it certainly isn’t. I’m pretty fucking pissed that each patch they release seems to make the game more and more prone to crash. Occasionally, Black & White even is able to go so far as to crash my entire machine right when the game starts up. That’s pretty impressive.

It would be the coolest game ever made if it weren’t for all this shit. When can we expect to see another patch to fix all the crashes? Two more months? Three? And how many new problems will that patch introduce?

Back from Maryland

I got an apartment in Baltimore for next semester, and I went out to Annapolis to visit. I saw most of the people I was expecting to see (all but one, since that one left).

Short Megan was, as usual, very short and very nearly always out of control. Sally was cool and quiet, but with this underlying mischievious look in her eye most of the time that makes you think, “Whoa.. this girl is up to something.” Jen was pretty much just there, not really doing or saying anything that I can remember. That’s sort of how she’s been for the past year. Glori was pretty typical in the this-past-year sense too, which is to say that she was pretty cool but said several things that I, and whoever else heard, could only respond with quizzical looks and possbily a “Huh?” response.

There was a piano concert on Friday, and a Heifetz/Classical Band/Heifetz concert on Saturday. I got a lot of good practice time on Saturday. Annapolis and St. Johns College are just so awesome, I really didn’t want to leave. I wish I could have stayed for the rest of the summer. That’s not to say I wish I were going back to Heifetz Institute, though. It’s just a really cool place to hang out and practice. I’d go to HIMI concerts if I were there, though.

Off to Baltimore..

I’m off to Maryland for the weekend. I’ve got to go find an apartment, and while I’m there I’m going to go out to Annapolis to visit the people at Heifetz Institute. Should be fun. I do love the college there, St. John’s College. It’s a beautiful campus.

Ludwig van

General Comments Off

I did some hackery on Ludwig van today. Earlier, I removed a lot of old code that I didn’t want to use anymore and installed some new LudwigDoc structures. Right now I’m working on tools again; I installed LudwigToolManager earlier. I also started on some cool code to let users customize their toolbars. This was one of the cooler features I listed in my screenshots of Office XP a few days ago.

Nautilus patch

I made my first patch for Nautilus today. My trash can had been broken, and using HEAD Nautilus my user interface was horribly unresponsive. They turned out to be related problems, and I found the solution last night. So, I’m happy that I’ve finally contributed something, however minor, to Nautilus. It’s a great file manager.

A.I.

I went to see A.I. today. It was really good. I’ve been looking forward to seeing it for years, since I first heard about it. Of course, I didn’t even know what it was about until sort of recently, except that I knew it was about some of the philosophical issues with artificial intelligence. I really wish I could find out what sorts of things Spielberg did differently from what Kubrick had designed. I remember when some book was released of the complete manuscripts of Bartok’s viola concerto, so you could see what exactly he had done, and compare it to what Tibor Serly did to finish it after Bartok died. It would be interesting to see something like that for A.I. The soundtrack was by John Williams, of whom I’m really not much of a fan. Still, it was a good movie. I forget the name of the kid who plays David, but he’s a really good actor. You don’t see good kid actors very often. That’s unusual.
