Protest

Talking to Dean Frank didn’t turn out to be very productive. She obviously thinks this oppressive atmosphere would be a good thing. She did tell us that we were blaming the wrong people, though, because we had assumed that this rule was being made by the campus police/security, when it was actually being made by the director of the Conservatory. So, we’re hoping to talk to the director about it and show him that we have a petition with most of the student population’s signatures on it. Right now we only have like 100 signatures, but by the time we see him we should have more.

ludwig-font can now be removed. I have everything moved over to PangoFT2 now. Here is a screenshot. It’s not committed to CVS yet, but it will be soon.

Stupid rules suck

General Comments Off

Cameron, Rebecca, and I are planning to go complain to Dean Frank on Thursday morning about this ridiculous new rule that says we must wear our ID cards at all times while we are at school. This is a stupid, stupid, evil rule and we don’t want to see it happen. I think we need to also talk to Dean Justen about it.

I’m upset that there are any people at all who are not pissed off by this. PJ, one of the bass professors, is not pissed off. He’s actually happy about it. And also our teacher Ms. Chiang doesn’t seem pissed about it; rather she seems to not care one way or the other. This sort of annoys me.

Weird dream (it involves a GEGL!)

Butcher and I were catapulting a large inflatable raft. It kept going straight up and down, so we just kept putting it back on the catapult and letting it go again. At some point we decided to put the GEGL on top of the raft before catapulting it. Somehow this just seemed like a good idea to both of us. So, we let the catapult go, but to our dismay the raft now went up and north. It looked like it went a few blocks north, so we set out to retrieve the raft and the GEGL.

Despite the fact that the catapult was launching from Gerry’s parents’ backyard in Texas, we were suddenly running around a neighborhood very much like Park Ave./Read St. in Baltimore in our search for the GEGL and the large inflatable raft, except we also found a couple swimming pools behind houses that had large inflatable rafts in them, and we had to search around these. After scouring the area, we found nothing that was our own and went home to Gerry’s parents’ backyard. At some point we must have separated because when we got back Butcher showed me a GEGL that he found, but it wasn’t a GEGL at all because it had only two legs, a skinny head, and some testicles but no penis. We were both very upset at Butcher’s find, but life went on and somehow we found a new inflatable raft. However, upset turned to tragedy soon as another person who I either didn’t know or can’t remember right now arrived and told us that the large inflatable raft and GEGL actually landed at Dallas/Fort Worth airport and that there was some sort of manhunt against the sickos who could have launched this deadly combo into the air. Apparently my girlfriend was killed in the accident, even thought I didn’t realize in the dream that I had one, because suddenly I was recovering from my loss and got a new girlfriend. Just as Butcher and I were about to start running from the law and go into hiding, even giving up our last launch, I woke up.

24oz Dr. Pepper

General Comments Off

I have come face to face with the holiest of holies. Ah, yes, the 24oz bottle of Dr. Pepper has shown its face at the local stores, and life is very, very good!

You see, cans of Dr. Pepper are for the totally weak. They’re only 12oz containers. Until now, we the Blessed Folk mostly drank the 20oz bottles. To attempt to drink the 2 liter in a single sitting would be wrong. But now, we have been shown a new path, and that is the 24oz bottle.

Praise be to the 24oz Dr. Pepper bottle!

It’s definitely shorter now.

Cutting my hair

I’m going to look so geeky with short hair.

I probably look that way with long hair also, so what the hell.

New photos

I took a couple photos on Monday morning during Peabody audition times. I’ve got a photo of the viola teachers. Victoria Chiang, Richard Field, and Joseph de Pasquale. Then I have two photos of Jason and Gwen, one not smiling and one smiling. Then, of course, I have some pictures of Yi-Ping modelling before her audition, and another after her audition. Here is a photo of her with her pianist before her audition, but this photo sort of sucks because it’s blurry.

Also, here are photos of Kasia and Jeremy, both taken from the roof of the apartment.

New email system

We have a new email system at school now, and it’s way better than the old stuff we had. We can define aliases so that we end up getting like three email addresses essentially. I’m only using two of mine. I can now be reached using cody at jhu.edu. That’s a much easier address to say than crussel8 at peabody.jhu.edu, or bratsche at gnome.org. Of course, my gnome.org alias now points to my JHU account so it’s the same thing.

Gerry’s wedding

General Comments Off

I got a call from my best friend Gerry last night. The ring is finally finished, and he and Shannon are officially engaged to be married in August. I’m going to be the “best man” at the wedding, although I honestly have no idea what is involved in that. I’m happy for Gerry. Woo!

Okay, so I wrote the IDL and implemented the BonoboObject-based classes for the client and server side tonight. I have a separate test program using CMU Sphinx, so the next step is just to merge that into the CORBA server and send the commands to the client.

Whee!

I got all the properties code working correctly today. There was one thing that sort of confused me, and I guess I should ask Michael about sometime. I have defined my set_prop/get_prop methods for BonoboPropertyBag, and I add the properties to it by using g_object_class_list_properties() and bonobo_property_bag_map_params(). I expect that when I use bonobo_pbclient_set_double(..bleh) that it would call my set_prop/get_prop methods, but it does not. It calls the set_prop/get_prop methods in the original GObject from whence my GParamSpecs came from. It works now, that was just unexpected.
