I just saw that Gnome 2.0 is released. Congratulations to all the Gnome hackers for making this release. I’m sorry I had very little to do with this one, but I’ll get more involved with Gnome again in the future for sure. Congratulations! I can’t wait to install it on my machine when I get home in August.
Advogato updates
raph: It’s nice to see you’re adding stuff to Advogato. While you’re at it, you really should consider adding a way to change passwords.

I finally sat down and figured out how to transfer digital audio between my MD and computer. I can copy CDs to MD, or MDs to CD now. It’s quite cool because it also transfers track placement, although I wish it would also tell when it’s finished so the MD would stop at the end of the last track. If I don’t pay attention, the MD records silence at the end of the last track. It’s still very cool. I haven’t tried copying an MD to CD yet, but I see how to do it and it’s very simple.
SSH and SCP on Windows
ShawnX pointed me to WinSCP, which pointed me to PuTTY. I had been using an evaluation version of CRT for SSH, but PuTTY is great, and it’s free. WinSCP is based on the sources to PuTTY and is a nice graphical frontend for doing secure file transfers. Apparently PuTTY is Open Source[tm] and Free Software[tm?], but WinSCP is closed- source, but still free of charge. It would be nice if they’d open the source to WinSCP, just on general principle.
And I’m off..
Leaving in the morning for Cleveland. Don’t expect to hear from me until August or September. I’m not sure if I’ll have email access while I’m there, but feel free to email me if you need to, and if I don’t respond then you know why.

- The Vieuxtemps sonata is really cool.
- The Bach Chaconne is really, really hard on viola.
- Grand Theft Auto 3 is probably the coolest video game ever made. At least probably the coolest one I’ve ever played.
