I’m playing in a Mozart quintet for two violas, violin, cello, and horn. I’m not sure when the performance is, but we’ve looked through it once and it seems okay. We’re rehearsing again this afternoon.
On Friday I’m reading quartets with Lesley, Simon, and Dwight. I’m going to see if I can borrow any more quartets from the university, because all I brought was Debussy, Shostakovich 2, and Beethoven middle quartets.

I’ve been playing around with Subversion the past couple days. It’s really nice, and it’s really simple to setup and use. I can’t wait to see it hit 1.0 and be totally stable.
Opera
My summer job is going pretty well. I’ve had this past week off, but we start again tomorrow afternoon. Ben quit last week, though, due to some differences with the psycho^H^H^H^H^H^H woman who runs the opera. It’s actually very sad to see him go. They still need one cellist, and Ben had asked me to call Jeremy, but Jeremy said he couldn’t do it. Damn! Isn’t that just the luck? I don’t know any other cellists who are in Baltimore this summer, so I don’t have any other suggestions.
Movies
I rented and watched Punch-Drunk Love and The Piano Teacher this week. The first one seemed a little bit odd at first, but I had to reevaluate how I define ‘odd’ after I saw The Piano Teacher. That film was totally screwed up. I haven’t decided if it was screwed up in a good way or a bad way, but it was definitely fucked up.
The people whose house I’m staying at have a few movies laying around, so I watched them. I saw Charlie’s Angels, but everyone already knows how I feel about that movie. I saw Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, but it just doesn’t seem quite as funny as it did back in the day. Then I saw The Graduate, which seemed okay, I guess, except that they play the same Simon and Garfunkel songs over, and over, and over throughout the movie.
Books
This house I stay at is like a library. The guy who owns the house is a writer, and so I guess he reads a lot. I’ve never seen a house with a fraction of the books they have here. So I found a copy of Fight Club in one room and started reading it. I’ve seen the movie, of course, and I’ve been meaning to read it for a long time, but just never got around to it. Now I’m glad I never got around to it, because now I get to read it without buying it and without taking the time to go to the library to borrow it.
Yes, I’m a lazy bastard.
This house
The people took off for the summer, so I pretty much just have to feed their cat and water their plants in exchange for a free place to stay for the summer. It’s a huge house, and it’s pretty old. The unfortunate thing is that people keep coming over and I don’t know about it because there are no doorbells and I can’t hear people knocking on the door from where I’m at. The people have a couple dogs that perform a similar function to a doorbell, but they took those dogs with them for the summer (for which I am very thankful) so they get along just fine without a doorbell.

Just a heads up to anyone who emails me, I’m going to be out of town until around August 18 or 19. My summer opera job starts on Sunday, and I’m leaving tomorrow morning. I don’t yet know how frequently I’ll check my email between now and then.

miguel got me really excited about Xr this evening. I was reading about it and it sounds totally wicked. It’s sort of a logical next step from XRENDER, but nonetheless still very exciting new stuff. And the word around the campfire (aka Miguel) is that GTK will have a new rendering engine based upon Xr. Very nice.
All this stuff is making me itch to go back to work on Ludwig van.
