Shaun of the Slightly Dreadful

Got around to watching Shaun of the Dead this Hallowe’en… had the DVD kicking around since this time last year. Turned out to be a bit of an over-hyped duffer, really… but should have expected that, I’ve yet to see anything with Simon Pegg in it that’s particularly amusing. (He seems to be one of those people whose coolness reputation has been built more on appearing in cult TV shows than from actually being hugely funny.)

  1. As Mark Twain would say, “A classic is something that everybody wants to have read and nobody wants to read.” 🙂

I did start watching Spaced, but like SoTD, I found it mildly amusing at best, and drifted away from it fairly quickly.

  2. If you didn’t like Shaun of the Dead just wait until there is an American remake 😛
Sometimes these things get over-hyped just because people are so happy to see films that are a bit different from what Hollywood is churning out.

Bought the collected DVD of Spaced but haven’t gotten around to watching it yet either. I hope it is as funny as I remembered but I can understand how all the in-jokey sci-fi references might not appeal to everyone.

  3. Depends why you didn’t like SotD (I thought it was pretty reasonable), but perhaps Severance is more up your street?

It’s worth watching for the man-trap scene alone.
