My nephew, Connor Patrick Ashley was born this morning at 2:03 AM, 6 lbs 6 ozs, and 21 inches long. Healthy and happy. Congrats again to Beth and Stephen!
Needless to say, the past couple of days have been a whirlwind. Been running back and forth to UNC Hospital and we now have family in town. Of course, we have had more opportunities to break in the Digital Rebel. I will try to get some pictures posted soon.

Well, my sister is finally in labor. Baby Connor is coming! I hope her labor is quick.
All and all it has been a hectic day. Had some stuff to do at work this morning and had an interview at 1pm. The interview went well, and lasted most of the afternoon. Moments after leaving the interview I got that call, “I’m in labor”. So, I rushed over to the hospital and have been running around ever since.
Congrats to Beth and Stephen!

Went over to Michael Johnson’s house tonight to sample some of his fine scotches, which come from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America. This is some fine scotch, and Michael really has a great selection. My favorite was the Laphroaig.
Also finished closing a few loose ends on the GNOME live CD for marketing use. I hope to have some that works in a couple days.

Played a decent round of golf this morning (at least for me). This being laid off thing isn’t so bad… got allot more time for things like golf. Not bad as long as I am still getting paid
Now it is time to get back to the job search. I wish someone would hire me to surf the web, play with cool stuff, and hang out on IRC all day… anyone got a lead for me?
Spent some time playing around with Mono, which actually looks pretty promising. I still plan to learn more Python, but mono does look like a good evironment (afaik). Wrote a simple gtk# application with the help of the monodevelop (takes no brains). Also, spent some time building a NAS device with openfiler. It looks pretty promising, nearly as robust as the top dollar cellera we have now. It is pretty nice to have a ton of test boxes and 20TB of SAN storage

Well, this didn’t exactly happen today, but it explains recent events that have gotten me here.
I work at Eli Lilly & Company, in RTP, NC. Last Thursday we got the word that our facility is getting shutdown. I hate to leave Lilly, but they are treating us very well. You see, Lilly doesn’t Lay off, they redeploy. So, I have a couple months to find a job while still getting paid here. I also get a nice enhanced severance, and get a nice relocation package if I choose to take a job in Indianapolis.
I am looking for a job, both internal and external. My preference is to stay in NC, but for the right opportunity I would considering moving to Indy. Anyone have that dream Linux job for me?
