It will then moan about a library which it can't install (IIRC libebook), then do apt-get install contacts libebook=[the version it said it can't install]. This worked for me when I was debugging this probem. We'll try and release newer packages which don't break, but the proper solution is for Nokia to not ship a crippled EDS... :/ With apt-get simply do apt-get install contacts. If you use apt from a terminal you can fix it and get a working system, but AppManager won't resolve the dependency tree sufficiently.
