New Desktop, Mutt and Irssi setup!

I bought a new PC a few weeks ago and I then decided to renew a bit my Desktop, my Mutt and my Irssi setup. I’ve been spending several hours cleaning up old scripts, logs and configuration files but the result definitely seems to reward me the right way. But here they come a few screenshots:

Irssi

Mutt

If you liked all the above and would like to reproduce everything yourself, you should consider having a look at my GitHub’s repository. See you on the next blog post!

Hi Andrea,

Here’s the comment, so please share us your mutt and irssi configuration files ;-) Thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot for this! I’ve recently switched over to using AwesomeWM and have been gradually getting rid of GUI tools in favor for console replacements, so this has been helpful in getting my config right.

A few friends contacted me on IRC asking me to post all the relevant config files so I thought setting up a GitHub repository would have made the trick for everyone. I’ve updated my post with the link, enjoy!

That looks GREAT!. Would love to get a copy of the configs :) will check out the link as per the update above to the GitHub repository.

Hello,

Would you mind sharing more about your GNOME configuration, specifically theme(s)?

Thanks,

jbm

I have mutt envy now. I only ever had the stock-standard setup with a few tweaks but your screenshot has made me think I should have another go at it.

Dumb question, but how did you get the folder view in a sidebar in mutt ?

#9 Joel on 09.05.11 at 2:47 pm

I’m more interested in your desktop setup. Obviously this is gnome2, but what’s the color scheme you’re using and where did you get the wallpaper? The icon set looks to be Faenza.

#10 woody on 09.05.11 at 4:06 pm

You guys are absolutely right, I forgot to post a few details about my desktop settings. But here they are:

Icons: Faenza Darkest Icon theme available at http://goo.gl/Vymii
Wallpaper: Debian Silver available at http://goo.gl/oG3PT
Theme: Darklooks, downloading it is as easy as running ‘apt-get install gnome-themes-extras’ on your terminal. I used the ‘clearlooks-classic’ theme on window borders.
Font: Sans, with ‘Optimize Font Form’ setup.

If you need any other information, just let me know :)

#11 woody on 09.05.11 at 4:09 pm

@Sharminder: you get that by installing the ‘mutt-patched’ package. (if you are under Debian / Ubuntu, just ‘apt-get install mutt-patched’)

Please also remember to update your Muttrc accordingly. You can find a working example on my GitHub’s repository as per above.

More informations about that package can be found at:

http://packages.debian.org/sid/mutt-patched

@woody: are you running squeeze, wheezy or sid? Your fonts look significantly better than my squeeze gnome2 box with Sans. I’m not sure what ‘Optimize Font Form’ refers to.

#13 woody on 09.05.11 at 5:04 pm

@Joel: I’m on sid atm. I don’t know what’s the right configuration name for my font setup, so I’ll just show you another screenshoot:

http://blogs.gnome.org/woody/files/2011/09/fonts.png

It has to be said I previously installed the Elegant GNOME pack, which took in several fonts modifications. You can get it at http://goo.gl/nDNck.

Yeah, sid has the patched libcairo2 for better font rendering.

Thanks!

Nice colors,

I see you are using the Faenza icon theme, but I’m unable to figure out what type of window decorations an colors is that theme.

Could you please explain it?
thanks! :)

ok, forget about my question, i’ve just seen the answer above, thanks.

How can i setup new theme ?
Where can i find the ~/.Irssi/directory ??
Where it is located in my computer ? I am using ubuntu

Waiting for the reply

#20 Andrea Veri on 09.22.11 at 3:57 pm

@Vicky:
1. You can setup a new theme simply by dragging the tar.gz into your System –> Appearance window. But if you want the theme I blogged about (Darklooks) its simpler, just apt-get install gnome-themes-extras.
2. Your .irssi directory is located on your home folder. So /home/USERNAME/.irssi is what will work for you. It’s usually automatically created when you start irssi from your terminal, but if you didn’t just grab my configuration files from here.
