Everyone’s favourite UX polish extravaganza is back for another round. For the next months we will be targeting a host of bugs that will add polish and finesse to the GNOME 3 user experience.
This is the third time that I’ve run Every Detail Matters. Over the last two rounds, the initiative has gone from strength to strength. A total of 82 bugs have been fixed so far, and the GNOME 3 user experience has been massively improved as a result of everyone’s contributions.
With all of this progress, it might seem that there’s nothing left to work on. However, there are still plenty of bugs out there, and there are many possible enhancements that can be made. I’ve lined up a substantial bug list for this round, with some pretty cool stuff in it. If you are interested, check it out.
If you have never contributed to GNOME before and fancy having a go, Every Detail Matters is a great place to start. Likewise, if you’re an experienced developer or GNOME contributor and fancy adding a bit of user experience polish to GNOME, this is a great way for you to take on an extra well-defined task or two.

If I use pycharm (for the last year, on different computers) the menus appear in weird places (not where the window is, often where the window last *was*) ,, and windows are just in the wrong place.
Had a go at getting jhbuild working, but it seems my ubuntu doesn;’t have smbclient.pc .. will give this more effort, seems odd that noone else has noticed.

The only other bug that affects me every day is gnome-terminal being quite particular about what will allow you to paste (it wont allow from freemind for instance).
It should really accept anything gedit does.
I can build python programs to help diagnose both issues (I already have one for the gnome shell issue).

I’d love focus change issues to be dealt with, finally. See #653085 and #645035.
In short:
When closing windows or changing workspaces the focus often switches to a different monitor than the one you were looking at, which is very confusing. I’ve found myself quite often closing a bunch of windows, when the focus switches to a secondary screen and I end up closing a window there, accidentally.
The goal would be to never change focus away from the current monitor when we
change workspace or when we close a window unless the user focused on it
manually, or we run out of windows on the current monitor.
I wish you good luck this time around. I think this is a fantastic initiative.
I can’t find the gnome bug at the moment, but the printer dialogue displays info about “firewalld” – afaikt a fedora specific package, in non fedora OSs – here’s a screenshot from 2011, I can see the same bug today (by going to printers, add printer and pressing ‘+’)
