Free as in…?

When Jonathan Scharz talks about free software, I can’t help but wonder whether he’s talking about free as in beer, or free as in freedom.

Also ready the last bit of the open letter. You can run the fastest growing open source operating system. Starting from a low base like OpenSolaris, Solaris itself IIRC is not entirely open source, high growth rates are nothing stunning. Just marketing talk, that show how you can can what you like, you just have to find the right statistic.

Me, I don’t like their license, so I’ll stick to using Gnome on Linux, thank you. They sure know what free as in freedom means, or else they wouln’t have made up their license like it is now. Heaven forbid their code makes it in to Linux. But you can toy around with it free of charge and you’re free to give them your contributions.

So in conclusion, there’s several degrees of freedom, proprietary sofware vendors are the one extreme, GNU the other, the rest including Sun is in between.
