Board size referendum

I was delighted to see that the board size referendum was carried this morning, with 62% of the vote. I was disappointed that turnout was a low 53%, though.

I’d be interested in knowing what the people who don’t vote in foundation elections feel they get out of being a foundation member, and I hope that we can get turnout up past 60% for the board election.

always more difficult to get people interested in referenda

    oops, my bad
normally I would make a big effort to vote
was busy and didn’t feel like taking the time to figure out the new system

must exercise the right to vote: use it or lose it

    > people who don’t vote

normally I’d recommend making turnout compulsory (ever since the Irish government reran the same referendum because they didn’t like the results and making disingenuous comments about poor turnout I have been dead certain we need compulsory turnout in this country)

of course we cannot force members of the foundation to vote but it begs the question why someone would want to be in the foundation but not vote. A follow up mail or survey, or perhaps politely asking people to confirm their memembership might be in order, or perhaps something else should be discussed on the mailing list.

I’ve voted in all GF elections, but didn’t this time, because I don’t know what is better, so just left the rest of the community to decide.

I agree with Rodrigo, I just couldn’t decide. On one hand 11 is a big group. And Open Source people tend to like agreement of the whole group, so it is harder with 11 people. But, I can’t see limiting the group that much, the idea of diversity is good also.

In the end, I think I’m happy the new idea won. It’ll give the idea a chance, and if it doesn’t work, we can have another vote 🙂
