Developer Summit Recordings

General Comments Off on Developer Summit Recordings

Thanks to a whole heap of people (John x 2, Tim) we have a bunch of recordings of various summit sessions uploaded. I’d like to warn people that the quality of the audio is poor at times, and very little post processing has been done. Ken has also been doing a set of rocking writeups (Batteries Not Included), and Jim’s been doing an awesome job at compiling links.

Thank you

I’d just like to express a big Thank you to all the people who came to Santa Cruz this weekend for the OpenSolaris Developer Summit. I had an excellent time meeting everyone from right across the community, and I hope those that attended had a bunch of fun too. Hope to see the numbers grow when we do it again in 6 months time.

I’d also, of course, like to thank the people in my team for rocking so hard, especially Jesse. And thanks to Sun too (Dan and Marc) for being willing to fund the event. I’m super pumped for the developer preview release at the end of the month, and charged to make the big push for a first release in Spring 2008.

Some people doubted the summit would be successful. I say ‘HAH!’ Let me welcome the new OpenSolaris mascot, Paxton the flying pig. Awesome!

Ian’s just finished his welcome to the OpenSolaris summit, and we’re just doing the round-room introductions – great to see so many people from different backgrounds and interests. Jesse has totally rocked pulling this together – the university has an amazing setting, and so far everything is going awesomely!

Hanging out in Santa Cruz

Sara and I got into San Jose yesterday evening, and started the relatively short trip down to Santa Cruz. The short trip turned into a longer one with a downed power line, causing a tail up of miles. After sitting for nearly an hour, we were passed through once the fire brigade, police and utility services did their thing. We were pretty hungry, needing to pee, and coordinating the rest of the people heading down that night.

Made the hotel bar in time to get some vouchers, small amount of food, and start the fun task of meeting everyone. It’s so good to see so many people here, and match faces to names for the first time. It’s exactly like that experience I had attending my first GUADEC many years ago. I think it’ll be an awesome couple of days, and I’m hoping much productive stuff comes from it. Rock on!

Niall made me pull over a Teamware workspace. Wait, I think I hear crying babies in the background.
