Shotwell 0.8.0 and gexiv2 0.2.2 released

Yorba has released Shotwell 0.8.0, an update to our digital photo
organizer.  This release includes some great new features:

* Video support for most major video formats, including importing them off of camera and adding them to events and tags.

  * Publish videos to major Web services, including YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, and PicasaWeb.

  * Runtime monitoring of library directory and auto-import of newly created files.

  * Background writing of metadata (tags, titles, ratings, orientation, and exposure date) to master files (user-configurable).

  * Flagging photos for batch operations.

  * Set multiple photos to desktop background slideshow.

  * Numerous translation updates.

  * Various bug fixes.

It’s highly recommended all users upgrade.

In addition, Yorba has released an update to our Exiv2 GObject
wrapper library, gexiv2 0.2.2.  (This library is a requirement for
Shotwell.)  This update fixes a bug where a photo file with malformed
EXIF could cause a crash.  It’s highly recommended that all users
upgrade.

  1. It compiled ok against vala from the vala team’s ppa on lucid. Thank you for the metadata writing feature.
Just to inform you, I was really excited to try it out that I lost my fspot tags. Pictures were already imported and when I enabled the metadata writing thing it rewrote all empty tags on my old fspot tags. So people should reimporte their already imported fspot pictures if they do not want to lose their tags.
Thank you for this Christmas gift!

  2. Why not in lucid? I try to compile with vala 0.11.2 but there is errors…
Lucid is LTS give us the new version please

  3. i compile shotwell 0.8 for lucid:
    download Vala 0.10.1
    ./configure –prefix=/usr
    make
    sudo make install
    download shotwell 0.8
    ./configure –prefix=/usr
    make
    sudo make install

  4. i wonder if in this version the red eye removal tool has improved or added some sort of auto removal, because doing something as simple as removing red eyes, was almost impossible.

  5. Hi everyone!
First of all, thanks for the awesome work on Shotwell! I really like the programme and it absolutely is what I am looking for!
I have just one comment, I don’t konw if it is hard to implement: would it be possible to make it a default option on facebook exports to have the albums marked as private when exporting? I often change the order, delete some of the pictures, wait to identify the people in the pictures before I want the album to be public, so I have to switch the privacy options all the time…
    Thanks!
    Philippe

  6. Hello friends!
I hasten to inform about the little Bug!
During the import file if disk space is over, then the program closes.
Please make a pop-up message “clear space on the hard disk and click [Continue]”
Thanks a lot for the program! Every success! Health to you(,u wife) and your children(s)! Happiness in life and marketing desires!
