Tomorrow morning, I’m getting on a plane to visit Silke in Heidelberg for a week. I fully intend to stay as far away from computers as possible. I’ll meet some of her German friends, take a trip to Strasbourg France with her, and generally just lounge about and drink fine German beer. It’ll be very nice, I’m sure.
Silke has had two of her exams so far, and gotten a 1.0 on both of them. (For those of you who aren’t German, that’s a perfect score.) But even more exciting is the phone call she received earlier this week: She’s been accepted into the Ph.D. program at UIUC, which means she’ll be back here again in the late summer, and for at least four more years. Four years should be long enough for me to keep her here permanently.
I’m going to miss the 2.14 release, which is a shame. I don’t know why, but I always get really excited on our point-oh release dates. So, happy 2.14 to all my Gnomies, especially Don and Brent, who are seeing their first release as core maintainers on Wednesday. I’m looking forward to another six months of fun, love, and freedom.
