I used to think that the endless round of updates, and consequent moaning about them round the office, was a Windows only thing.
So, am I the only person who is getting irritated by the constant (nearly every day?) updates from Ubuntu? Would it be so difficult to roll these up and only release them once a week or something?
Then only update once a week? Problem solved.
Personally I like getting updates immediately.
There’s even an option in the Software Properties control panel to check for updates weekly instead of daily (in the “Internet Updates” tab).
I guess I’m a freak then. I keep one machine on Ubunutu Dapper but the other on Ubuntu Stable + 1 all the time. It only irritates me if I have to reboot. 🙂
Daily? Are you sure? I feel like I usually don’t get them more then once a week for the most part, sometimes two days in a row but usually its not that often with Ubuntu Dapper.
Sounds like you have dapper-updates enabled, for new releases, etc, rather than just dapper-security which has the security fixes.
Personally I like getting updates immediately. I like knowing that something is going on in the community.
Sounds like you want to increase your window of exposure to vulnerabilities. Myself, I tend to pull in the other direction.
Well, first there are the security updates, which are good, then there are the Ooops updates, as in “we broke Xorg for half the ubuntu-using planet again, better do something fast” updates. Where would the fun be if we hadn’t to drop to single user from time to time, heh ! 😉
