<lefti> Hello, can you stop this project (gtk+) ?
<lefti> there is no reason to do gtk+ anymore ...

And then the discussion goes on about QT being free, so the reason for having gtk+ doesn’t exist anymore, and how much better the world X desktop would be if everyone used QT. Or something like that.

Anyone feel like asking to stop QT as there’s no reason to do it anymore?

wonderful. between this, the bug report and the rant it seems that we are pissing off many fourteen years old developers.

Tommi, I feel like asking to partially stop Qt development, there’s no reason to have another list, string and other stuff that is already provided by stl or boost in Qt anymore. I actually do ask qt developers about this once in a while and their answer is basically the same glib guys do when I ask them why they continue developing it. Neither of these answers are good enough.

Emmanuele, first, I’m not a 14-yro developer and I don’t know what make you think that way. I do argue some points and noboby, i said NOBODY, has came with a valid reply. All I see is personal feelings. My points were always technical and I expect the same kind in any comment on it.

Also, my rant was about GLib, mainly GObject, which I expect you know is different from Gtk. Yes, Gtk is based on it, but it’s not part of.

My only “rant” against Gtk and Gnome libraries is that they require much code from developers, or in other words, they provide really few facilities to help one get his job done. Clear examples are the new GtkTreeModel and friends, that are a great and powerful idea, but not everyone wants to use it. Some users just want a simple way, as we had before. Gtk/Gnome libraries would be better if they had these helpers for most used features. With each relase guys do improve things a bit, but it could get more attention.
