We’re thrilled to announce that registration for GUADEC 2023 is now open!

GUADEC is the largest annual gathering of GNOME developers and community members. This year, we’re excited to welcome everyone in person in the beautiful city of Riga, Latvia, from July 26th to July 31st. But if you can’t make it in person, don’t worry, we’ll also be live-streaming the event so that you can attend remotely.

GNOME Foundation Opens Travel Sponsorships for Linux App Summit 2023

The GNOME Foundation is pleased to announce that a limited number of travel sponsorships are available for those who wish to attend the upcoming Linux App Summit (LAS) in Brno, Czech Republic. LAS is a conference for developers, designers, product managers, community members, and anyone interested in the state of Linux application development to collaboratively work on building and improving Linux applications. This year’s conference takes place on April 21-23. You can learn more about LAS, register, and view the schedule on linuxappsummit.org.

The travel sponsorships are open to anyone who wishes to attend LAS but may not have the financial means to do so. If you’re interested in applying, please contact Kristi at kprogri@gnome.org and include a short statement on why you would like to attend LAS along with your estimated travel costs. Please note that the travel sponsorship recipients will be required to volunteer during the conference.

The deadline for submitting your application is March 24, so be sure to apply as soon as possible if you’re interested in attending LAS. This is an incredible opportunity to meet with fellow developers and community members and to work on improving the Linux application ecosystem.

GUADEC 2023 Call for Participation Opens

The GNOME Foundation is delighted to announce that the call for participation in GUADEC 2023 is now open! You can submit your talk proposal at: https://events.gnome.org/event/101/abstracts/.

GUADEC is the largest annual GNOME community conference, and it will be held this year in Riga, Latvia, from July 26th-31st. Talks will be streamed online for anyone attending remotely.

The GNOME Foundation is seeking talks on a variety of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Application development
  • Privacy and security
  • Community and team building
  • Design of user and developer experience
  • Use of GNOME technologies outside the desktop
  • Newcomers initiatives
  • Project planning and governance

The first three days of the conference, July 26th-28th will be focussed on talks. The following two days, July 29th and 30th will be dedicated to BoFs and workshops. The final day, July 31st will be a fun social event for all who want to join us!

The deadline for submissions is April 4th. Please note that this year, there will be no remote talks. We hope to see everyone in Riga for in-person presentations!

Call for GUADEC 2024 (Outside of Europe) – Bid Proposals

The GNOME Foundation invites bids for hosting GUADEC 2024.

GUADEC is the largest annual gathering of GNOME users and developers, and we’re looking for locations outside of Europe for the 2024 conference. Bring GUADEC to your city next year! 

If you are interested in submitting a bid to host GUADEC 2024 in your city, please send an intention to bid by end of the day on Feb 8th, 2023. Bids will be due on Feb 28th, and you can talk to the Foundation Board and previous GUADEC organizers to find out more about what is involved.

Your bid should demonstrate that:

  • The location is easily accessible by plane or train
  • You have a motivated local team with a few core members, preferably with experience in event organization
  • A suitable venue is available to host the event
  • There are affordable accommodations and places to eat
  • There is a local industry and government support
  • Rough Cost Estimation for the conference budget.

Deadlines

  • Intention to bid: 8th of February 2023
  • Bid submission: 28th February 2023

Intentions to bid and bid submissions should be made by e-mail to board@gnome.org. Both intentions and bids should also be added to: https://wiki.gnome.org/GUADEC/2024/Bids

Organizing GUADEC is a large undertaking but local teams will have help from Foundation Staff members and Engagement Team contributors!

Call for GNOME.Asia 2023 Bid Proposals

The GNOME Foundation invites bids for hosting GNOME.Asia 2023.

GNOME.Asia Summit is the featured annual GNOME conference in Asia. It focuses primarily on the GNOME desktop but also covers applications and platform development tools. The summit brings together the GNOME community in Asia to provide a forum for users, developers, foundation leaders, governments, and businesses to discuss the present technology and future developments.

If you are interested in submitting a bid to host this year’s event in your city, please send an intention to bid by end of the day on the 15th of February. Intentions should be submitted by email to board@gnome.org.

GNOME.Asia organizers are available for any questions at asia@gnome.org.

Your bid should demonstrate that:

  • The location is easily accessible by plane or train
  • You have a motivated local team with a few core members, preferably with experience in event organization
  • A suitable venue is available to host the event
  • There are affordable accommodations and places to eat
  • There is a local industry and government support

Your bid should also include:

  • A rough cost estimate for the conference budget

Linux App Summit 2023 to be held in Brno

We’re happy to announce that Linux App Summit 2023 will take place in Brno, Czech Republic on April 21–23, 2023. For 2023 Linux App Summit (LAS) will again be held as a hybrid event, allowing attendees and speakers to join virtually or in person at our venue in Brno.

Linux App Summit (LAS) is a conference focused on building a Linux application ecosystem. LAS aims to encourage the creation of quality applications, seek opportunities for compensation for FOSS developers, and foster a thriving market for the Linux operating system.

Everyone is invited to attend! Companies, journalists, and individuals who are interested in learning more about the Linux desktop application space and growing their user base are especially welcome. The call for papers and registration will be open soon. Please check linuxappsummit.org for more updates in the upcoming weeks.

About the Linux App Summit

The Linux App Summit is co-organized by KDE and GNOME. It brings the global Linux community together to learn, collaborate, and help grow the Linux application ecosystem. Through talks, panels, and Q&A sessions, we encourage attendees to share ideas, make connections, and join our goal of building a common app ecosystem.

GUADEC 2022 Call for Participation is Now Open

The GNOME Foundation is excited to announce that the call for participation for GUADEC 2022 is now open.

GUADEC, the GNOME community’s largest conference, will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico between the 20th and 25th of July.

This year’s conference includes a number of exciting milestones! GUADEC 2022 will be our first return to in-person events after two years of remote conferences and will include streaming for those who wish to join virtually. This will also be our first GUADEC held in North America. We hope this expansion of our flagship conference will not only make it easier for our community members in North and South America to attend but will also kick-start local participation in the GNOME project. Furthermore, this year we celebrate our 25th Anniversary of GNOME! In honor of this momentous occasion, our conference theme for GUADEC 2022 will be 25 Years of GNOME. We encourage anyone interested in submitting a proposal to think about how their work with GNOME has evolved and progressed throughout our project history, tell us about your current work, or look ahead to future projects and initiatives.

The GNOME Foundation is looking for talks on a wide range of topics including but not limited to:

  • Application development
  • Privacy and security
  • Community and team building
  • Design of user and developer experience
  • Use of GNOME technologies outside the desktop
  • Newcomers initiatives

GNOME.ASIA 2020 Call for Papers are now Open!

GNOME.Asia Summit 2020 invites you to participate as a speaker at the conference on the 24th and 26th of November 2020 by submitting your abstract.

GNOME.Asia Summit is the featured annual GNOME conference in Asia. It focuses primarily on the GNOME desktop, and also covers applications and platform development tools. The Summit brings together the GNOME community in Asia to provide a forum for users, developers, foundation leaders, governments and businesses to discuss the present technology and future developments.

The possible topics are, but not limited to :

  • Contributing to GNOME
  • UI design
  • Accessibility
  • Human Interface Engineering (Icons and Graphic Design)
  • Marketing/Engagement
  • Developing GNOME on embedded systems or open hardware
  • Contributing to Linux and FLOSS
  • Linux kernel and development
  • The development and promotion of open-source operating systems
  • Distributions, including Debian, Fedora, openSUSE, Ubuntu, and FreeBSD
  • The development and promotion of other open source projects
  • We are also interested in other topics related to Free/Libre and Open Source Software which are not listed above.

Sessions will be scheduled for 25 or 50 minutes (Q&A included). The session could be a technical talk, panel discussion, or Birds of a Feather session (BoF).

Submission Criteria

Please provide a short abstract of your presentation (under 200 words). Also include your name, biographical information, title, and desired length of session. Please submit your proposal to the following link: https://events.gnome.org/event/24/abstracts/.

The reviewers team will evaluate the entries based on the submitted abstracts and available time by following the schedule.

GUADEC 2020 Call for Participation is Now Open

The GNOME Foundation is excited to announce that the call for participation or CfP for GUADEC 2020 is now open. Proposals can be submitted on the event page: https://events.gnome.org/e/guadec2020

GUADEC, the GNOME community’s largest conference, is taking place between the 22nd – 28th of July and will be held in Zacatecas, Mexico.  The GNOME Foundation is looking for talks on a wide range of topics including but not limited to:

  • Community and team building
  • Design of user and developer experience
  • Use of GNOME technologies outside the desktop
  • Newcomers initiatives 
  • Project planning and governance

The first day, the 22nd of July, will be called “GNOME Open Day”. The GNOME Foundation is looking for proposals for this day, in particular, that will focus on local outreach, governance, and getting more people involved in the Zacatecas region. These talks should be meant for new GNOME users. We also welcome talks on this day to be given in both Spanish and English to make them more accessible for locals.

GNOME at FOSDEM February 1st – 2nd

GNOME will be present at FOSDEM 2020 which takes place this weekend in Brussels, Belgium, from February 1 – 2. FOSDEM is one of the largest gatherings for Free Software enthusiasts and contributors.

GNOME will be hosting a booth in the K-building where attendees can meet contributors, test the latest version of GNOME, and pick up some of the latest GNOME merch designs.

On Saturday, GNOME will be hosting our famous social evening – GNOME Beers! Gathering at Bonnefooi starting at 7:30pm, we’d love you to come along and socialize, meet staff, and chat with core contributors. Additional details about GNOME’s presence at FOSDEM including more info about the social event is available on GNOME’s FOSDEM wiki page.
