Gnome Scan 0.5.1 : « Le jeu en valait la chandelle » !
June 12, 2007
Hi all of you !
It’s time for a release after the reset of the project. Gnome Scan 0.5.1 has almost all features of 0.4 and tons of both user visible and internals improvements. Highlight of this release are plugin system, dynamic UI building, Gegl-base processing, multi-threaded programming, file acquisition and more. Regressions from 0.4 are : no rotation, no gimp plugin (please notify me if you find other). Read the NEWS and ChangeLog for more informations.
- You can download sources at http://download.gna.org/gnomescan/gnome-scan-0.5.1.tar.gz
- I provide Ubuntu Feisty Fawn .deb source and i386 .deb at deb http://bersace03.free.fr/ubuntu feisty universe .
- Update: History screenshots ( You can play finding differences between two following screenshots)
I produce this release in order to get feedbacks. Especially, i would like feedbacks on SANE support, UI design, responsiveness as well as API. If anyone feel like writing the Gimp plugin, that would be a great test for the new design.
Update: I fixed packaging, thanks to Karel Demeyer and Anonymous #1.
Cheers !
Étienne.

That’s awesome!
Really impatient to see this included in Gnome.

I agree, I would love to see this in gnome. A simple, easy to use scanning interface I think is something that really would add value to the gnome experience. Keep up the good work!

Push for inclusion in default Gnome! This work is worth it and would be great for all users.

I recompiled the packages you propose on bersace03.free.fr for Gutsy.
I know they have nothing official, but they lack basic tests.
You obviously compiled them within your desktop system so you didn’t notice the missing dependencies. Compiling them in a chroot reveals many lib/foobar/-dev missing.
Also libgnomescan0 is depending on non-existent libgnomescan1-data. I edited “debian/control” and now flegita works OK.
So now I can test gnome-scan and flegita, report bugs, improve quality, and hoping they will be included in next Gnome shipped with Gutsy.
Keep up the good work!
