Our band opened for this lot. We covered a few of their tunes (because, duh) and asked what they weren’t planning on the Special Beat Service tour. Best Friend was something they weren’t doing, so we could.
It was, coincidentally, one of the few songs The Polemics did where I sang lead. It was decided we’d do this song last, and the first for The Beat.
So I played and sang with Dave, Roger, Saxa, et al. And Davey Steele didn’t mock my bass playing.
