  1. Hi,
Remind me again how I use nested tags.

I have tried the following in the add tag dialog:

    SW/Stormtrooper
    SWStormtrooper
    SW|Stormtrooper
    /SW/Stormtropper
    SWStormtrooper

I even tried Drag and Drop or whatever the mouse ritual is called.

What’s the magic symbol needed to actually use nested tags?
(I find http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/4005 ambiguous and http://redmine.yorba.org/projects/shotwell/repository/revisions/4589998095aa22e0bb9b9f85a9ba17cc4d9e159e doesn’t add much info either).

    Thanks,
    Rasmus

    1. Sorry, I got it working dragging a little harder. . .

Is it not possible to specify subtags via keyboard?

      1. Hi Rasmus,

As of Shotwell 0.11 it is not possible to create new child tags using the “Add Tags” dialog. The only way to create a new child tag is to right-click on a tag in the sidebar and choose “New…” from the context menu. This will create a new child tag of the selected tag. Once you’ve created a child tag however, you can specify its name in the “Add Tags” and “Modify Tags” dialogs to apply it to photos.

        Cheers,
        Lucas

  2. Thank you very much for Shotwell.

Just discovered shotwell with Ubuntu 11.04. Installed the latest version of Shotwell. While it is fast to launch and nice looking, I will stick with f-spot. Shotwell is still too poor in terms of tags and functionalities and does not yet suit users with well structured photo-stores.

I do not see why it was chosen over f-spot. With thousands of pictures tagged, f-spot does not consume space and sorts pictures in the correct order. Shotwell uses a lot of space to replicate the pictures, the import took for ever. Shotwell does not seem to be leveraging the exif data as well as f-spot and above all, is very very poor with tags. Use of folders where pictures are stored is absent. Sorting by date does not work for me. The import from f-spot did not recover more that 1% of f-spot tags. I agree Shotwell is nice but not yet the right tool for large and well organised photo-stores.

Seriously, I do not see the fuss against f-spot and had to install f-spot back on my compter.

Hope shotwell will improve its functioalities. Seriously, as I would like consensus on the photo tool for ubuntu. Really a shame both teams do not group together.

    Regards.

    1. Hi Xusolar,

We don’t provide packages for Maverick. There are people in the Ubuntu community that do, but these are not supported by us.
