We went to see Das Leben der Anderen (2006) on the weekend. Set in the former GDR, the movie depicts the tension between a group of dissidents and the Stasi agents who are trying to dig up dirt on them.
The antagonist, Wiesler, a rather ascetic and hard-working agent, loses his grip on reality as the power-struggles and depravity of Stalinism slowly eat away at his resolve. He has the task of monitoring the playwright Dreyman, and a rather interesting story ensues. That’s all — Don’t want to spoil the plot!
In personal news, I am nearly finished with exams. Some other good news is that I have been accepted into the CS Honours programme at UCT next year.
