Geary 0.3 released

We at Yorba are pleased to announce the release of Geary 0.3, our lightweight email client.  Geary organizes your email by conversations rather than threads and offers full HTML composition, attachments, and more.  Geary is compatible with Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, and most IMAP servers.

This major release brings many significant improvements and changes, including:

  • Support for multiple accounts
  • Account editor
  • Basic full conversations
  • Some lightweight background downloading of messages
  • Mark as spam/not spam
  • “Important” folder support
  • Multiple compressed messages are collapsed in conversation viewer
  • Mark as read as you scroll in conversation viewer
  • Highlight unread messages in conversation viewer
  • Allow auth-less SMTP
  • Conversation viewer WebKit inspector
  • Many, many bugfixes

The Geary 0.3 tarball is available for download.  See Yorba’s wiki for information on building, running, and contributing to Geary.  Report bugs and feature requests at Yorba’s Redmine server.  (You must create an account before adding or modifying tickets there.)

  1. Yesterday i took the decision to remove thunderbird.
    Today you release the v0.3.
    I am a very lucky guy !

  2. Thank you for your work. IMO Vala is the right tool for all your projects including this one. Geary looks good but it’s not quite usable for me because of the lack of mail filters. Are you planning to develop something like SPIT for Geary? I would touch Vala (or C) to build some plugins for you.

      1. SPIT, in this context, most likely refers to Shotwell Pluggable Interface Technology; among other things, Shotwell’s publishing plugins and alien database importer are implemented using interfaces found in the SPIT namespace.

Finding a fitting acronym is left as an exercise (although Geary Reprogrammable Email Access Technology might work).

  3. Just tried it. Sadly I need NTLM SMTP authentication which it doesn’t have yet.

Otherwise I guess it could replace Thunderbird for me as it is.

    Very nice email client =)

      1. I’m sorry for annoying but I would ask you again about Geary plugin architecture and interface. Are you planning to provide API and SDK (headers/templates) to develop additional functionality separately and easily? As it was done for Shotwell.

  4. Hi there,
Great to see a new release. Are there plans to add a “unread mail marker” to the labels? Would be great because I organize all my mails with labels.

    1. Could you be more specific about the feature you’d like to see?

I can say that Geary 0.3 supports marking email as read/unread. It also supports stars (aka flags) and Gmail-style labels.

  5. Fedora user here, can’t get it to compile from source, but I can get 0.2 working from yum.

Please update the fedora RPM, I’m growing desperate!!

  6. Hi

but the labraries are there with right permissions…whats the problem?
    I am using debain..

    thanks

  7. great app!!
i really like both your apps, whatever you release is first of all, *stable* and then pretty and practical.
but *please* add a preference for always showing images!

  8. Please, I am looking information about Geary security. If I save the passwords of my emails accounts in Geary, o Geary do use keyring or any other form for security save my passwords?
    Thank’s

    1. So far all released versions of Geary have used Gnome-Keyring for security.

If you build from git or use a daily build that’s no longer the case. We’ve switched to libsecret, which works with several keyring services.
