  • movie: Watched Dancers in the Dark. Really good, though not easy to watch at times. It was very very good, though. Unfortunately, the DVD only got 2/3 of the way through before it became unwatchable. I skipped ahead a few scenes to finish it, but feel a bit annoyed.

  • exercise: I went fencing for the first time in years today. I am in amazingly poor shape. I could barely hold my epee after the second bout. I have horrible blisters, too. Blah — need to get back in shape before thursday.

  • GNOME2: mmeeks came to visit. Good talk about the platform.

  • Birthday: My Granpa turned 80 a few days ago. I sent him an email to wish him happy birthday. He’s doing pretty well, and is even trying to use a scanner now.

  • Birthday (age): When my Grandpa was my age, he had already been shotdown over Belgium, and had made his way to Switzerland through occupied France. I’ve been fighting in GNOME. Sort of puts things into perspective.

  • Barnes and Noble: I returned the other scanner, and decided to go through Best Buy’s collection. Not being certain which were supportted under Linux, I decided to go to BN to research a little. None of them seem to be supported, with maybe the exception of a Microtek. I guess it’s time to order online.

  • scanners: These things suck under linux. Apparently I’m pretty incompetent.

  • Usenix: Apparently I was never mailed that I was going to give a talk. I need to write the paper soon.

  • GNOME: I’ve signed up to do waaay too much. Man, I’m hosed. On the good side, I applied James Cape’s patch (after a lot of cleanup) to GnomeDruidPageStandard. The new standard druid is going to look a lot nicer.

  • sleep: Still staying up to late. Must end the vicious cycle sometime.

  • consumerism (redux): Bought a scanner today. My attempts to get it to work with sane have been all for naught, thus far. Grrr…

  • druid: Spent the evening pretending to clean up GnomeDruidPageStandard while watching Scary Movie. It wasn’t as bad as I’d thought, or as good as I’d hoped. They managed to show all the jokes in the trailer.

  • GTK+ (GtkTreeView): I’ve been trying to pick up work on this after all the nautilus of the last few weeks. I’ve made surprising headway. I’m really excited about the animations that Anders added, as well as the prelighting support I through in. It didn’t take long, but made a huge huge difference in how it looks.

  • sleep: Damn. Up ’til 3:30 again. Must-get-sleep
