  • Handling of contacts in Empathy has been switched to use libfolks, this will enable future enhanchements, such as support for metacontacts. (GNOME bug 623714)
  • Carlos Garcia Campos ported the byzanz applet to use the new D-Bus based panel applet library.
  • Gtk-vnc has switched over to use GIO for socket connections and DNS resolution.
  • Giovanni Campagna contributed a base API for system status indicators in GNOME Shell. (GNOME bug 621705)
  • James Liggett implemented a tags pane in the Anjuta git plugin.
  • In the ongoing transitions, Nautilus has been ported to GSettings, Eog has been switched to GTK+ 3, and accounts-dialog is being ported to gdbus.
  • Preliminary support for adding new annotations (at the moment only Text annotations are supported) has been added to Evince. (GNOME bug 168304)
  • Toms Bauģis changed hamster search to use SQLite full text search.
  • David Pellicer contributed a few more keyboard layouts to Caribou.
  • The function name completion tooltips used in Gnumeric have been improved by Andreas J. Guelzow.

  • Nate Stedman merged his branch adding suport for themes in Ease.
  • Benjamin Otte continued stripping GTK+ of old GDK drawing functions and classes (GdkPangoRenderer, GdkGC…).

  • Fernando Herrera added Mallard documentation to Dots, the interactive braille transcribing application.
  • The calendar backend in evolution-mapi has been made fully asynchronous.
  • Thomas Wood added region and city comboboxes to the new date and time control center panel.
  • Aleksander Morgado contributed a feature to enable or disable selected books in devhelp. (GNOME bug 619202)
  • Nate Stedman replaced the system() call by the usage of libarchive when saving documents in Ease.
  • GThumb has been updated to preserve the EXIF data after lossless rotations.
  • Vinagre has been migrated to GtkApplication. (GNOME bug 596733)
  • Arx Cruz added a new password dialog to Zenity.
  • The three-point-oh branch of cheese has been merged, rewriting Cheese in Vala and making advantage of Clutter.
  • Paolo Bacchilega ported file-roller to use GSettings.
  • Seed has been updated to build against the gtk 2 or gtk 3 versions of WebKit, at user choice.
  • John Stowers created a gtk-3.0 branch of pygtk, to prepare a pygtk version that, while not based on gobject introspection, would still be a step towards GNOME 3.
  • Aaron Bockover changed the Amazon proxy URIs of Banshee to some supporting geo-IP redirection, redirecting users to the Amazon stores appropriate for their countries.
  • Benjamin Otte has been working hard on the “rendering-cleanup” branch of GTK+ 3, chopping much of the old drawing system, where cairo usage is more appropriate now.
  • In GSOC land, Dragos Dena finished the snippets editor for Anjuta, Jamie Nicol almost finished implementing Last.fm radio playback in Rhythmbox, Luca Invernizzi completed the couchdb backend of Getting Things GNOME, and others also worked, of course…

  • The Hamster project got separated in client and d-bus service, and got a command line client (GNOME bug 602642).
  • Behdad Esfahbod pushed a gnome-terminal branch with a find dialog to highlight search terms. (GNOME bug 78963).
  • Much work happened in the asm-support branch of nemiver.
  • This was the week of the gsettings hackfest, many changes landed in both glib and gconf modules, you should read the day 1 summary by Vincent Untz and overall summary by Matthias Clasen.
  • During that hackfest baobab (in gnome-utils) has also been ported to gsettings, with explanative commit messages, and the devhelp branch has been updated for the API changes.
  • There was also a GNOME Python hackfest and much work happened in pygobject and pygi, go read posts written by John Palmieri: day 0, day 1, day 2, and wrapup.
  • Tadej Borovšak ported sound juicer to GtkBuilder, this was the last module using libglade, yeah.
  • Torsten Schönfeld started adding GIO support to the Perl binding, via gobject-introspection.
  • Support for application-indicators/StatusNotifierIcon has been added to the typing break applet in gnome-control-center (GNOME bug 606671)
  • Evolution got a new foocanvas branch, getting rid of libgnomecanvas.
  • A new SSH Hosts plugin written by Fabian Carlström has been added to kupfer.
  • Joanmarie Diggs added improved support for Empathy in orca. (GNOME bug 589925)

  • Epiphany now has page cache enabled, as all critical bugs have been fixed and it now needs real world testing.
  • Huzaifa S. Sidhpurwala added TLS-Remote support to the NetworkManager OpenVPN plugin. (GNOME bug 455142)
  • Cheese has been changed to limit webcam framerate to 30 frames per second, as the developers really do not want webcams that claim to support huge framerates to slow down everything. (GNOME bug 607238)
  • Enrico Minack updated the Invest applet to connect to NetworkManager to react on network changes. (GNOME bug 605739)
  • GNOME Color Manager gained the ability to find and select ICC profiles on mounted volumes from other operating systems (both Mac OS X and Windows). (GNOME bug 607390)
  • Jesse van den Kieboom fixed bugs in the smart converter encoding guessing of gedit and added test cases.
  • The GNOME Disk Utility got drive emblems, used to mark RAID and LVM2 “drives”.
  • A new workspaces view, matching latest design has been commited to the GNOME Shell, the default workspace view is now a scrollable horizontal list, with a control to switch between it and the previous grid view. (GNOME bug 593844)
  • Toms Baugis added the possibility for Hamster to run as a standalone application, instead of being a panel applet.
  • The accounts dialog of Empathy gained an extra column in the treeview displaying the status of each account (GNOME bug 605309).

  • Behdad Esfahbod added the possibility to save the content of a terminal. (GNOME bug 24457)
  • Vinagre feature to share a desktop over Telepathy has been ported to the latest Telepathy API, removing the requirement on Empathy to dispatch tubes.
  • A new accounts-dialog module has been imported, talking to a new accountsservice service to manage accounts; Matthias Clasen announced it on his weblog: Old Promises.
  • Parallel to those developments Milan Bouchet-Vala continued hacking on the accounts management in system-tools-backend and GNOME system tools, improving both backends and user interface.
  • XChat-GNOME got rid of libgnome and libgnomeui (GNOME bug 584887); the GNOME Panel also got rid of them.
  • gdm has been fixed to not display a different message for user unknown versus a failed password for a valid user, to avoid revealing which user names are valid without authenticating. (GNOME bug 606703)
  • Andrea Cimitan speed up the Murrine engine in RGBA mode, fixing the way webkit windows were handled along the way.
  • Alexander Larsson added support for lazy loading of giomodules to GLib.
  • Thomas Wood worked on the evolution of the control center, moving to a single window approach, in the single-window-shell branch, read his weblog for more info.
  • GNOME Disk Utility got a first cut at LVM2 support, with support for creating Logical Volumes; support for setting up striping and mirroring will come later.
  • Bastien Nocera added cropping capability to the chooser widget of Cheese. (GNOME bug 606730)
  • Toms Baugis improved the hamster applet so it will now adapt automatically to theme colours.
  • Epiphany “find on page” feature has been improved to wait a little bit before searching for one or two character strings, which slowed down things. (GNOME bug 598322)

  • Alexander Larsson is still working on client side windows in GTK+ and posted a status update.
  • A new API to draw routes and lines has been commited to libchamplain. (GNOME bug 572377) (example)
  • file-roller has been updated to use new GtkEntry icon support, instead of SexyIconEntry. (GNOME bug 584810)
  • gthumb changed from libgphoto to the gphoto gvfs backend. (GNOME bug 583796)
  • The gnio rewrite of gvfs FTP support made it so idn/punycode is now supported. (GNOME bug 567871)
  • libgnomekbd switched to use single GTK+ includes. (GNOME bug 563629)
  • The Hamster applet got the possibility to export reports to CSV. (GNOME bug 549604)
  • Support for Adium themes (using WebKit) has been merged in Empathy. Various themes were already tested, and they are listed, with known issues on awiki page (GNOME bug 522069)
  • Banshee gained a weighted random mode, to play highest rated songs more often. (GNOME bug 544680)
  • Telepathy “tubes” support landed in vino, allowing to share the desktop with Empathy contacts. (GNOME bug 584840)
  • Many of the patches Milan Bouchet-Valat created with regards to GTK+ file chooser issues were finally applied.

  • The 3.0 platform cleaning plan was announced and already beared a lot of results : baobab, hamster-applet, gcalctool and glchess got ported to GtkBuilder; brasero, the toolbar editor in libegg and yelp got rid of their glib and GTK+ deprecated symbols; gnome-mag migrated to gio/gvfs; and eog incorporated all it needef rom libart_lgpl, thus removing its dependency (GNOME bug 577940, GNOME bug 578219, GNOME bug 571868, GNOME bug 578304, GNOME bug 517732, GNOME bug 573023, GNOME bug 556808 and GNOME bug 556807, at least).
  • Also Matthew Barnes killed the deprecated html-editor component from gtkhtml2, getting rid of bonobo (GNOME bug 571743).
  • Several gnome-games (aisleriot, gnibbles, mahjongg, and iagno) were updated to use g_timeout_add_seconds where sensible. (GNOME bug 564202).
  • Vincent Untz improved his gnome-session patch, and commited the fix so that reboot and shutdown also leave the session properly, by letting apps exist before doing the real reboot/shutdown.
  • The GVFS FTP backend saw several fixes (including GNOME bug 520399, GNOME bug 573349).
  • Ignacio Casal Quinteiro added source code completion to GtkSourceView.
  • pygtk was changed to use numpy instead of Numeric, that was no longer maintained (GNOME bug 387544).
  • Empathy added a new presence selector widget, that incorporates a text field for quick setting of custom messages (GNOME bug 569449).
