  • Morten Welinder updated the non-linear solver in Gnumeric so it knows about constraints. (GNOME bug 620368)
  • In gnome-devel-docs Marta Maria Casetti wrote new Python tutorials for treeview widgets.
  • William Jon McCann migrated the Nautilus menu bar to a view menu button. (GNOME bug 676531)
  • In rygel Jens Georg added a simple standalone player as an example; it’s a stand-alone UPnP renderer that renders any visual content in ASCII-art.
  • Christian Persch imported PCRE 8.31 into glib, and added support for the new match options and JavaScript compat mode. (GNOME bug 679193)
  • Ana Risteska updated gnome-shell telepathy integration to not add log messages on presence changes. (GNOME bug 669508)

  • GSettings ports again, nautilus-sendto, gcalctool were both switched this week to use GSettings. nautilus-sendto has also been ported to GTK+ 3.0, and Rygel as well.
  • OpenID support has been added to Snowy, the web companion of Tomboy.
  • Daniel P. Berrange added support for colourmap based pixel formats to gtk-vnc, his patch implements full support for rendering from colourmaps, this should improve performances in low bandwidth situations.
  • The notification-daemon got support for multiple screens and monitor changes (GNOME bug 622552)
  • Christian Persch ported the SVGZ support in librsvg so it can use GZlibDecompressor instead of libgsf. (GNOME bug 621699)
  • Damon Chaplin worked quite a lot on a new API for goocanvas, in the new-api branch of goocanvas…
  • GNOME Shell got support for icon buttons in notifications, thanks to Matt Novenstern. (GNOME bug 621014)
  • Morten Welinder fixed the excessive memory usage of gnumeric related to column styles when reading xslx files. (GNOME bug 622365)
  • Michael J. Chudobiak switched the documentation of gthumb to Mallard.
  • In Empathy support for importing old Missing Control 4 accounts has been removed.
  • Bastien Nocera ported the sound preferences dialog to be a panel in the new control center; and Richard Hughes ported the preferences dialog of GNOME PackageKit.
  • The GNOME Panel got support for gobject-introspection, for its panel applet library. (GNOME bug 622341)
  • In Vinagre Jonh Wendell implemented the “take screenshot” command for the SSH connections.
  • In the land of GSOC students Jamie Nicol finished off the profile view (screenshot), Stéphane Maniaci added some informations about the photos imported from Flickr (titles, descriptions, authors), Michel Hruby started a Totem plugin to allow searching for recent media, and other students were also hard at work.

  • Many modules started adopting GTK+ 3 (GNOME Desktop, GNOME Settings Daemon, GNOME Color Manager, GNOME Power Manager, GNOME Control Center, Goocanvas, Totem), sometimes keeping compatibility with GTK+ 2.x, (like VTE, gucharmap, GNOME Games, librsvg and GNOME Terminal).
  • Shaun McCance added “Copy Code Block” and “Save Code Black As” to code snippets in Yelp, he wrote about the feature in Yelp and the DOM.
  • The volume control “applet” has been changed to use symbolic icons (GNOME bug 614212), to complete this Jakub Steiner added such icons for microphone levels. (GNOME bug 621175)
  • Johan Dahlin added a “promise” module to gjs, to provide a better API for supporting asynchronous code. (GNOME bug 608450)
  • Grilo got a gravatar plugin, it is used to distribute an artist-avatar/author-avater attribute if either “artist” or “author” fields contain a valid email.
  • Totem has been updated to use a dark theme and symbolic icons. (GNOME bug 617921)
  • Ryan Lortie added dconf-editor to the dconf module.
  • Jonathan Matthew implemented the MPRIS D-Bus specification in Rhythmbox (GNOME bug 618520), MPRIS defines a common D-Bus interface for media players.
  • Harold Schreckengost contributed a new F-Spot topic based help.
  • Felix Kaser added a new “EmpathyLiveSearch” widget in Empathy, used to dynamically filter the main window contact list.
  • In GNOME Control Center Thomas Wood converted the display capplet to a settings panel.
  • Andreas J. Guelzow added a search function to the function selector of Gnumeric. (GNOME bug 495776)
  • In the GNOME Shell Florian Müllner added a fade effect when overing over items of the dash. (GNOME bug 620782)
  • Abderrahim Kitouni added a plugin to support Vala to Anjuta. (GNOME bug 620757)
  • William Jon McCann improved the performance of the GDM greeter (GNOME bug 621045)
  • In Summer of Code land, Alexander Saprykin wrote a tiny parser for CMML files, so libcmml won’t be necessary for chapter support in Totem; Yuvi Panda made photo, video and burst modes of Cheese work in his Vala port; Michal Hruby wrote a Rhythmbox plugin using Zeitgeist; and more.

  • The 2.30 release is approaching fast and translators are hard at work, French and Russian are already totally translated, and 30 teams are over the 90% bar. The most impressive progress this week has been the Lithuanian team, coordinated by Gintautas Miliauskas, that improved from 84 to 89%.
  • Banshee lyrics plugin got support for the lyricsplugin.com database. (GNOME bug 612958)
  • The GNOME Keyring has been fixed not to store session keyring on disk. (GNOME bug 612977)
  • Daniel P. Berrange worked hard on gtk-vnc, substanctally improving and modernising the code.
  • GNOME Volume Control got a speaker testing UI, Bastien Nocera blogged about it in Speaker testing. (GNOME bug 519438)
  • Yelp 3.0 branch got support for a basic “back” button.
  • Thanks to a patch by Marc Deslauriers GNOME Power Manager got support to communicate with GNOME Screensaver running as a D-Bus service. (GNOME bug 609031)
  • Andrea Cimitan added a new option to the Murrine theme engine to draw smooth separators.
  • The GNOME Shell has been changed to use a single button to toggle between linear and grid view. (GNOME bug 610801)
  • The VTE library got introspection support. (GNOME bug 604837)

  • An example displaying geotagged photos from Flickr has been added to libchamplain.
  • A “Share My Desktop” feature has been added to Empathy, it allows a contact to share his desktop over an IM stream. (GNOME bug 589091)
  • The mousewheel action on Rhythmbox status icon has been made configurable, it can be made to switch to next/previous tracks, and to modify the audio volume. (GNOME bug 376863)
  • Orca has been extended to prepend “mispelled” to the words marked as such in Mozilla text areas. (GNOME bug 588910)
  • Anjuta Git support has been modified to show the active branch in the status bar, and to provide “git stash” features in the UI.
  • gnome-power-manager removed the CanSuspend and CanHibernate D-Bus methods as there is now a patch available for gnome-session, to make it so it handles them directly via DeviceKit-power.
  • Bastien Nocera added profile switching support to the volume control, and blogged about it.
  • Zhang Sen, who is working on Telepathy Tubes support for the Sudoku game in his GSOC, added saving and undo/redo support.
  • In another GSOC, to create a D-Bus mail service, Ian Marcinkowski commited his IMAP parser.
  • GNote added a D-Bus interface mimicking the Tomboy one. (GNOME bug 581030)
  • Eye of GNOME gained an option to have the detailed metadata list widget shown on its own notebook page in the properties dialog, so the dialog is smaller and fit on smaller displays. (GNOME bug 566810)
  • Finally Matthew Barnes ported gnome-video-arcade from libglade to GtkBuilder, and Felix Riemann converted zenity. (GNOME bug 578393)

  • The App monitoring module landed in gnome-shell, it will be used to provide things like “Recent Apps”. (GNOME bug 570899).
  • The Evolution external editor plugin has been updated to behave like the kmail equivalent, the normal evolution mail composer is now displayed, and the external editor starts whenever the user types something in the body. (GNOME bug 567145)
  • Jody Goldberg improved Gnumeric xlsx format parsing, adding basic support for external references.
  • Yelp can now display simple text files. (GNOME bug 565502)
  • Passepartout, the revived desktop publishing application, got its internationalisation support completed, making all the diealogs properly translatable.
  • Tomboy printing support was rewritten to 1) wrap very long lines and 2) partially render paragraphs at the end of pages.
  • Empathy gained a menu entry to display its file transfer manager. (GNOME bug 574626)
  • Rhythmbox got support to read cover art embedded in media files (for local files only). (GNOME bug 345975)
  • The GNOME sound recorder saw its libgnome/libgnomeui dependency removed. (GNOME bug 567310)
  • Davyd Madeley rebased David Zeuthen resolution independance private git-svn branch against the real GTK+ repository, and published it into a new “resolution-independence” branch.
  • Finally, deprecated GTK+ symbols were removed from a bunch of modules: vino, gnome-system-tools, gok and gnome-media/grecord.

  • Still in the aftermath of the Git migration, 189 commits were about DOAP files and JHBuild got his Git support quite improved.
  • Empathy now displays the transfer speed in its file transfer dialog. (GNOME bug 580097)
  • Meld has added support for SVK. (GNOME bug 416418)
  • Epiphany was fixed to use GNOME settings for the default font sizes, instead of the WebKitGTK+ defaults.
  • The libgnomeui dependency was removed from both the GStreamer Properties and the Media Profiles in gnome-media.
  • Peter Bloomfield ported the Balsa mail client to use GMime 2.4.
  • In evolution-data-server, Rob Branford ported libedata and libebook to D-Bus in the D-Bus branch, and Philip Withnall converted the Google calendar backend to use the external libgdata in the libgdata-port branch.
  • David Zeuthen commited his GDBus work in a new gdbus branch of glib; and Dan Winship merged his GResolver (a glib-ish interface to DNS) branch into glib (and blogged about it). (GNOME bug 548466)
  • Nautilus now use g_timeout_add_seconds instead of g_timeout_add where appropriate (GNOME bug 574033); also Deprecated GTK+ symbols were removed. (GNOME bug 565038)
  • Shaun McCance pushed his Mallard branch to the gnome-doc-utils repository.
  • GNote, the Tomboy Gtkmm clone, got support for Add-ins. (GNOME bug 578980)

Issue 22

This week… 2186 commits, in 244 projects, by 204 happy hackers (and 804 were translation commits).

  • Translators are again working hard; Brazilian Portuguese reached 100%, and there are four languages already at 99.9%. Italian jumped from 95.2% to 99.2% thanks in part to Milo Casagrande getting granted a subversion account (welcome!). Estonian and Tamil both reached the 80% mark, there is now 41 languages over it. Noteworthy is also the Oriya team, that increased its score by six points (that’s more than 2500 strings translated in a single week), now at 59.9%.
  • Metacity title bars will now include “(as username)” for windows running as another user; this was discussed in a squib of the day (GNOME bug 549389).
  • Alexander Larsson fixed many issues in gvfs and gio.
  • Empathy logging support got more robust with the merge of Jonny Lamb log-manager branch. (GNOME bug 538293, GNOME bug 549284)
  • A new card set, created by Frederik Elwert and using the Tango style, has been added (in gnome-games-extra-data).
  • Epiphany and WebKit/GTK+ are again very active, with for example the addition of basic download support. (GNOME bug 570735)
  • In GTK+ the drawing of progress in entries was improved, notably so that the progress is drawn behind icons.
  • Brian Cameron added a Sound Theme tab to the old gst-mixer, for people that can’t use PulseAudio; he also applied a few lying patches.
  • moserial, a clean serial terminal, got imported in GNOME subversion repository.
